IEC 79TH GENERAL MEETING IN MINSK

From 5th to 16th of October 2015 Minsk hosted the General Meeting of the International Electrotechnical Commission.

All in all more than 1,000 delegates from over 80 countries attended sessions of about 30 IEC technical committees and subcommittees. The event brought together the representatives of the world's leading companies in the field of electrical, electronic and related technologies, experts from the national, regional and international organizations on technical regulation, standardization and conformity assessment.

The subject of the Meeting was laid down in the slogans: Smarter use of energy: improving people’s lives and Unified Requirements & Conformity Assessment - key drivers for world trade.

Within the topic framework the IEC Technical Committees and Subcommittees met to discuss challenges and prospects in such areas as electronic engineering for power delivery, equipment for explosive atmospheres, electrical equipment and systems for railways, semiconductor devices, electrical household appliances, audio, video and multimedia systems and equipment.

The Belarusian State Centre for Accreditation together with other organizations subordinate to the State Committee for Standardization took part in the IEC activities. Accreditation experts found a particular interest in the workshop IEC Conformity Assessment System as the most effective tool to overcome the technical barriers in international trade.

The IEC 79th General Meeting proved to be a valuable experience for the Belarusian specialists as a source of modern knowledge while for the international community it provided an opportunity to discover Belarus as a country of remarkable scientific and technical potential.
