Halal certification training was held in BSCA

On 20-21 November 2018 Basem Altarawneh, senior standards specialist from the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA) and sheikh Omar Abdullah, representative from the General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Endowments (GAIAE) held a training for BSCA staff regarding standards UAE.S GSO 2055 Halal products Part One: General Requirements for Halal Food, UAE.S GSO 993 Animal Slaughtering Requirements According to Islamic Rules and UAE.S GSO 2055-2 Halal products Part Two: General Requirements for Halal Certification Bodies. The training was also attended by BelGIM representatives, specialists from certification bodies and relevant experts. Basem Altarawneh and Omar Abdullah kindly shared Islamic perspective on halal certification and related issues with the audience which expanded the knowledge of the audience in halal sphere. Participants of the training also used a wonderful opportunity to get answers for practical cases from sheikh Omar Abdullah, a theologian who is authorized to give a relevant judgment since halal sphere is inextricably linked with Islam.

Following the training all the participants were given corresponding certificates about participation therein.


Reference: Basem Altarawneh is a recognized specialist with over 20 years of professional experience in standardization sphere. He is also known as sophisticated technical expert in halal sphere. Over the last 11 years Basem Altarawneh has been working for the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA), cooperating with the Gulf Accreditation Centre (GAC). In his work he combines both involvement in development of standards and participation in the assessments as a technical assessor.
